Today we learnt a Maori myth and we had to draw pictures of what happened. We drew 6 different pictures. Here is what I did. The story is about Rahi who saves his wife from the bird called Namu.

This week we made a cityscape for Art.

First, we chose a photo of a city and I chose New York.  Then we had to cover the buildings with black shapes to create a  silhouette.  Then we printed the silhouette and cut it out.  Then we created our background.

We chose coloured paper and cut out shapes from the coloured paper to create a sunset.

I like my art.

       Church and dragon

Greene ars   I blackhat black eyesgreen   she  There was once a monster called Rob who lived in an abandoned church with his monster family. Rob was hairy and bright green, he also had black hair on his head and green eyes. He also had a magic wand that he could cast spells with. The Church had lots of rooms and lots of school pictures on the walls. The church was made of wood and had red, yellow and orange walls inside. One day Rob went to school with his magic wand. As he went into the classroom his teacher took the wand away from him. Rob did a trick with the wand before she took it and turned his teacher into a big cat. He ran to the bus because his whole class was mad at him.
. Then Rob rWhen he got home his mum got a call from the teacher. Rob’s mum was very angry with him and grounded him for a week and took his wand away. Then Rob rang his teacher to say sorry and took her chocolate the next day. The End.

Today at Kiwican we started a new topic of Problem Solving.

Our first game was human knots.  We had to hold hands and try and untangle ourselves.

The second game we played was mat dodge ball.

Area of Rectangles: planter boxes

For maths this week we were learning how to measure the area of the planter boxes.

Step 1: Cut the shape into 2 rectangles

Step 2: Calculate the area of each individual rectangle

Step 3:  Add the 2 areas together

In the example above, the area of the first rectangle was 12cm2 and the area of the second rectangle was 6cm2.

So the equation was 12cm2 + 6cm2 = 18cm2

So the area of the planter box is 18cm2.

I learned how to compare bridges from NZ and from other countries. I found out that there are lots of different types of bridges.

Week 3- Maths

In maths we learned how to find the area of a rectangle. Miss Emma drew boxes and i counted them and found the area. Each time the size of the rectangle changed. We measured in cm2. I had a lot of fun this week in maths and it has been my favourite week of maths so far this year.

Kiwican 8th August

Today at kiwican we played Snatch and also Octopus!  We were talking about goal setting and achieving your goal.  My goal is to be the best I can be for rugby.

Today at Kiwican we were talking about how to achieve your goals.  We talked about making a plan.  We played some games.  Eleanora and I had to hold the ball behind our backs.  And we played with the ripper tags.

This week we have been talking about asking questions when reading.  We read Mrs Grimbles Grapevine by Jill Eggleton and tried to think of some What, Where, When, Why, Who and How questions.
